Quest for Magic saw our Theros tournament at capacity over the course of the day. We had several attendees from our previous Member Drive event turn up, which was a great bolster to the club. After the Tournament was finished a re-draft of the rare cards and prize boosters was held. Several members and attendees left for the night, but several others hung around and got some board game demonstrations of Dungeon Quest as well as X-Wing.

We had a great day at the Georgetown Marketplace Mall on Saturday the 26th despite the cold rain outside. We met several people in the community playing Warhammer and Magic the Gathering who would be great additions to the club. One fellow was talking about playing BattleTech and his custom war tables when he went on to mention playing "Garden Scale BattleTech". Large scale robots in the back yard and laser range finders? What's not to like? Count me in the next time you are playing!

As we said to several people in the community, if you have a game sitting on your shelf and no one to play with, bring it out to our events and we will gladly help you make use of that neglected cardboard and plastic.

Anyone up for "Garden Scale WARMACHINE"?

Board Game Day

The Board Game Day marked our 3rd event of the year and kicked off the long weekend in style. We had participants choosing to play Heroscape, Heroquest, Munchkin and finally X-Wing Miniature Battles from our board game collection.

In Heroscape we saw the dice favor the Mimring almost through to the end. Unfortunately the opposing side clobbered Mimring with a minimal attack when the fickle dice didn't turn up a single defense.

Heroquest saw the party stick together save for the Barbarian who spent time alone searching for treasure, only to scare up more monsters in the process. In the end, the Barbarian made his way to the tomb and with the aid of the wizard's spell "Courage" destroyed the foul Gargoyle Verag.

In typical Munchkin fashion the party was up and down in levels and equipment with the victor finally defeating a monster to reach level 10.

X-Wing Miniature Battles continued to keep the game clubs streak of the X-Wing beating out the Imperial TIE fighters, however this battle was the closest yet. The Imperial side managed to keep the TIEs in formation and was within a single hull point of defeating the rebel scum after losing the veteran pilot. With a single move the X-Wing managed to blast the rookie TIE from the sky and return to base.

Retro Arcade & LAN Party

Our event to play a few rounds of classic arcade games from the early 80's to compete for bragging rights in the tournament. Each player played each title in the tournament 3 times, with their highest score counting towards points in the playoffs.

In addition to the Arcade Playoffs, members and guests were invited to bring their Windows PC or retro gaming rig of choice for some LAN Party action.

Finally, we also had an area set aside for classic old school table top board gaming to relieve attendees from obtaining a CRT/LCD tan.

This event had a smaller turn out than usual, but every one enjoyed some classic arcade gaming taking place on some modified XBOX hardware and Commodore monitors. There was also a longer session of Total Annihilation in the afternoon that had Colin beat out the other players.
